PETsMART Charities, Inc. forms as an independent, nonprofit organization and we partner with them to help save the lives of homeless pets.

We introduce our vision statement: To provide Total Lifetime Care SM for every pet, every parent, every time—which we do by offering superior products, unmatched services and superb customer service to pet parents and their pets.
We start testing PETsMART PETsHOTELs® in two of our Phoenix stores.
We launch PETsMART® PetPerks®, our customer loyalty program, to provide pet parents with better communications and valuable offers.
We move away from the “mart” mentality and focus on our “smart” solutions—we become PetSmart.
We open our 1,000th store.
We open our 100th PetSmart PetsHotel®.
We partner with GNC and Martha Stewart to launch the first of many exclusive brands—GNC Pets TM and Martha Stewart Pets TM.
We open stores in Puerto Rico and end the year with more than 50,000 associates.
PetSmart Charities introduces Enhanced Adoption Centers inside ten PetSmart stores. These full-scale centers are open daily, house dogs and cats, and are run by a local animal-welfare organization.
We launch our corporate philanthropy program, PetSmart Gives Back, and put an even larger focus on enriching people’s lives through the power of pets.
We celebrate our 25th anniversary and our five-millionth pet adoption through our partnership with PetSmart Charities.
We extend our exclusive brands to include The Bret Michaels Pets Rock TM collection and Toys “R” Us Pets.
